Kitchen Kapers
by Russel Chale
Scene in the kitchen every day
Fish and veggies prepared their way
Add something more so it looks nice
Garnish with sugar, salt, or spice
Cling and clang of iron and steel
Scream of anger at orange peel
Thud, thud, thud of chopping knife
Hiss of boiler heralding strife
The odors of cooks doing their deeds
Mixing up meals with cumin seeds
Aromas of herbs in pots and pans
Hints of any day’s menu plans
Sampled dishes prove chef’s delight
Tastes of the ocean come out right
Tip of the tongue gets gourmet’s nod
Platter contains a whole grilled cod
Russel Chale currently lives in the Byron Bay area of New South Wales, Australia. He enjoys
writing poetry and flash fiction.
